Madeleine Wins National Creative Colourist Award & SA Hairdresser of the Year title at the 2012 Australian Hair Fashion Awards! Hair Machine would like to congratulate Glenelg stylist and team trainer, Madeleine on receiving the National Creative Colourist award & South Australian Hairdresser of the Year title at the 2012 Australian Hair Fashion Awards. The awards were presented at a ceremony held in the prestigious Sydney Town Hall held at the beginning of the month. Madeleine said she was feeling “a bit nervous about the whole evening,” being her first competition since moving to Australia in 2008. The winning collection is called ‘La Propagande des Femme’ meaning Female propaganda. Her vision was to “mix the bold and abstract styles, which portray the deliberate nature of propaganda, with femininity represented by the use of colour and the porcelain-like skin of the models”. Madeleine’s fashion trend predictions for the 2012 autumn/winter season include “heavy fringes, sleek ponytails and retro hairstyles. Dip dye hair will be a continuing trend but this season is about bold and contrasting colours”. Hair Machine Norwood's Damien announced as finalist for 2012 Australian Hairdresser of the Year! Damien Rinaldo from Hair Machine Norwood has been nominated as finalist for the 2012 Australian Hairdresser of the Year at the Schwarzkopf Hair Expo Awards with his latest collection ‘Neutral’. Titled ‘Neutral’ to communicate the camouflage of gender in contemporary social and style trends, these are the factors which have driven Damien’s inspiration for the collection. This is Damien’s second consecutive nomination after his top 5 finalist position in the 2011 Schwarzkopf Australian Hairdresser of the Year. There are 10 finalists awaiting the final announcement at the Expo Gala on Monday 11th of June 2012. We would like to congratulate Damien on his achievement and wish him all the best on finals night. Hair Machine’s Madeleine from Glenelg and Laura S from North Adelaide have been named finalists in the 2012 Australian Hair and Fashion Awards (AHFA). Madeleine has been nominated as a finalist in the South Australian Hairdresser of the Year and National Creative Colourist of the Year categories. The style director from Hair Machine Glenelg “was so excited about the first nomination I nearly hung up on the AHFA representative, before he could tell me about the second nomination, then I was completely gob-smacked.” Laura Schomburgk has been named a finalist for Apprentice of the Year. All her Christmas’s have come at once for the stylist, who was feeling rather anxious in the lead up to the announcement and still cannot believe her luck: “I decided to start planning for next year’s entry as I thought I was out on this one”. Congratulations to Hair Machine stylist Alex Totani and team from Hair Machine Glenelg! Alex competed in the IHS national competitions over the weekend and received numerous awards for her work including First place in Junior Catwalk, 3rd place in Junior Women’s Cutting, and runner up for Women’s Open Colour, Men’s Cutting, Open Fashion Team Collections. Damien Rinaldo also received South Australian State winner for the 2011 Face of IHS competition. IHS State Competitions: On Sunday 10th of July the Adelaide German Club was filled to the brim with hairdressers, hairspray and hot hair trends as the national International Hairdressing Society held their inaugural state competitions. With her sharp skills and eye for fashion Alex Totani from Hair Machine Glenelg received the award for South Australian Junior Hairdresser of the Year, after receiving awards in a high number of competition categories. Hair Machine stylists abroad received an array of awards from a selection of judged area’s including Men’s Catwalk, Ladies High Fashion Colour, Men’s and Ladies cutting to Free Expression. The teams from Hair Machine, Glenelg, North Adelaide and Unley all received a placing in the Open High Fashion Team awards. Director of the Hair Machine brand, Nadia De Marco believes “hair fashion competitions are a chance for hairdressers to really feel a connection with the industry they work within and it gives them a chance to be inventive with hair and experiment with innovative and fashionable trends.” Hair Machine Tips Campaign! Hair Machine stylist ALEX TOTANI from our Glenelg Salon has been accepted into the new L’Oreal id Artist team. Ivana & Katerina Swimwear Model Competition 2011 As most of us are rugging up for winter, some of Adelaide’s aspiring models were dressing down to their cosies’ last Friday, in an attempt to showcase their talents as well as the stunning Swim Wear by local designer duo Ivana & Katerina. Hair Machine stylists from Burnside and North Adelaide salons were backstage and on hand at Heaven nightclub where the parade took place. The girls styled the models with a simple off centre buns to compliment the patterns and frills on the swimsuits. “We were after something girly but still with a touch of sophisticated glamour to match the swimsuits” Donna Rinaldo from North Adelaide said. The Evenings events weren’t all about the styles on the catwalk, with all proceeds from the night going to the Hutt Street Homeless Shelter. Nicole Abela from Hair Machine Burnside will be styling on the upcoming campaign shoot for Ivana & Katarina’s collection. Happy 1st Birthday HM Unley! HM Franchising would like to say Happy 1st Birthday to the Unley Hair Machine salon. Salon owner Tanya Attard and her team Monique & Maddie are very excited about turning one. “It’s been great a year and has been really rewarding seeing how far we’ve come in that time,” Tanya says. The Unley salon opened on the 1st of May 2010 and since then has established itself as cutting edge part of the Hair Machine franchise. “Instead of being in a new salon, we feel like we’re in our salon now and that’s a great feeling” stylist Monique Munn. The 'L'Oreal ID Artist' is a 2 year talent development programme, with a focus on education, training and presenting, designed to take hairdressing careers to the next level. L'Oreal describes an ID Artist as a committed progressive hairdresser - someone who is fashion focused and passionate about the industry, self motivated and interested in career development and aspires to represent L'Oréal Professionnel as part of their artistic team - attributes that describe all four girls perfectly. The programme offers the opportunity to develop session styling, cutting and presentation skills and be involved in a variety of events, backstage and onstage. The finalists, who were announced in Sydney last night, will have to wait for the winner to be announced at the Hair Expo Gala Dinner on June 13th. Australian hairdressers of the year need to demonstrate excellence in creativity and salon leadership, team work, business acumen, client management, industry development, an image maker and recognised amongst peers. Hair Machine Competition winner Kristie McTernan and friend Kim Meires (pictured right) returned home from Melbourne after spending “the most amazing time” in Melbourne for the 2011 L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. Kristie and Kim were treated to celebrity status “with a room on the 23rd floor room at the Crown Promenade overlooking the whole city, with complimentary buckets of champagne and great service.” The L’Oreal pre-show function was held on a yacht at the Docklands where Kristie and Kim “got to rub shoulders with celebrities and fashionistas”. The total prize package was worth $3,000!
